  • Although it probably doesn't need any introduction, "Thriller" is the chart-topping pop tune recorded by Michael Jackson, composed by Rod Temperton, and produced by Quincy Jones. It was the seventh and final single from his album of the same name. Did you know that as of August 2018, "Thriller" has sold a total of 7.024 million copies in the United States alone?

I like the way he has no unnecessary movements, every motion is small, close to the chest, and precise, with no energy wasted, and yet still powerful.
Compared to "normal" drummers, it's like the difference between a professional boxer knocking you out with a jab, and a drunk at a bar swinging a big wide punch that you can see coming from a mile off.

    • Andrew Graulich
Andrew Graulich Hace 23 días +2

Similar to precise, musical guitar playing, like that of Tony Rice’s (God rest his soul). Also skilled knifework by professional chefs. Economy and intentionality of movement and energy. Often the sort of skill that makes something look easy when it’s eminently not. I think as well of dancers such as Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire.

Hey bhutch216 It's his kit man. He has it that way to use if needed. This is not the only work this gentleman has. He's a hired gun and his tools of the trade have to encompass and cover a huge territory of what the employer wants and needs. Plus you surround yourself with what you are comfortable and confident with to do the job. And in this case the Michael Jackson material did not need anything but a solid 1 and 3 and 2 and 4, bass, snare, hi hat and accents via cymbals. He delivered and then some. The man, I am sure is capable of much much more. ANd whose to say that's his kit. Maybe for these vids he's using the house kit but it looks more personalized to me. AND hardly ever do you ever use your entire kit unless your fukking Neil Peart, Ginger Baker, Stewart Copeland, Keith Moon or Animal from Sesame Street. ; )

God this man just makes me want to pick up the sticks again every time I see him play.
What a spectacular drummer that not only fills the necessary role of “metronome” but also has so much tangible feeling to his playing. It’s SO easy to slip right into that groove he’s got going. It’s such a hypnotic drum part.
This is a man who has mastered working around the pocket, and managing to keep the beat within it at the same time. His subdivisions are just unbelievable.

Sincerely I think it is just professionalism. Everyone is saying how ABSOLUTE PRECISE is his rhythm, which should and must require an insane amount of focus to keep. The man is a living metronome and being relaxed is not the way to be like that. This guy trained to become one of the greatest drummers in the world and that is just him, being one of them.

@Jorginho MJ was one of the most discriminating artists to ever make it big, he would fire you faster than Ozzy if you rushed one note or even slightly drag the snare on a downbeat. It had to be EXACT. This is what you're seeing here. I don't know if MJ did the bad things, but as a heavy metal (Mudvayne, Fear Factory) fan, I'm telling you MJ was one of the most musically talented people to ever grace this earth, hands down. If this guy was his drummer, this guy is a machine, that's it.

@Topper Harley even if he got it wrong It doesn’t look like that he is a native english speaker which is sad to see all of those ppl roasting him for writing in a language that aint his first language rather than appreciating his efforts to learn their language and feel proud that ppl whom don’t speak their language are interested in their culture that much, i would love to scroll down every youtube comment section just to find the native English speakers misspelling simple english words but u kn what ? The Linn LM-1 or Linn Drum was used for the studio recording of Thriller. Yes some spots had live drums such as the intro, but the hand claps and cow bell were from the drum machine.
