      Truth! Those first sections in place of d beats would rip at a high tempo and I've seen her split a 7 groove that also would rip at a fast tempo I would love to see this applied to modern metal hardcore punk and every other smaller offshoot genre

    I just loved this cos it's the first time I've heard "Dha Ge Na Ti Na Ka Dhi Na" on drums rather than tabala!! I've played these variations on tabala never knew it would sound so cool on a drum set. So wanna get into drumming now!

    Just want to appreciate the sound of her earrings while she speaks! That style of earring is called 'jhumka' or 'jimikki' and it's often a staple in Indian girls' attire :) And as always, a well rounded, entertaining video saturated with information. Thanks for this Sarah!!

    Sarah is a drum beast! She takes the last track, makes it her own and decimates it!
    The best thing about her is she teaches in a way that even a beginner with no introduction to Indian beats can learn and incorporate. All without being holier than thou or condescending!

    as a songwriter, hearing rhythms inspired by community and dance really inspires me. these rhythms had me dancing in my seat! it really goes to show how beautiful music is, and how it brings people together no matter where you're from, regardless of culture or background.

      Jeremiah Diaz?, Drums really are Very Much Fun, I have Jamed with Heaps of people at Open Mic but one thing that's sad is open mic have all Closed Down?, but when U ask them to do something more Complicated music, they say I'll be right, we can go home now?, instead of Learning something New, I'm not saying there isn't room for Improvement, I reckon there is always room for Improvement on the Drum Set?.       It immediately reminded me of the underlying tribal rhythms you hear influenced in a lot of Mexican music even to this day. I listen to electronic music that was made with indigenous beats in mind. Look up Tribal Guarechero if you really wanna see a modern adaption of beats from indigenous inspiration!

    This is so cool! When I was in college I got to see a couple of tabla clinics given by Sandip Burman. He gave a detailed description of Indian rhythms and the Indian approach to time signatures. I always left his talks so inspired to apply some of what I learned from him on the drumset. Thanks for showing your own application of Indian rhythmic ideas!

    Some of these grooves reminds me the rhythm from brazil of the Pagode Baiano (some times called Swingera) genre, its just awesome see so much feeling and my body just can't stop when i hear both. Really nice drums, and lesson as well, thanks a lot.

    As a kid my neighbour used to practice the tabla. The first time I found out was when I went over and he was practicing and it was just mesmerizing. I love all instruments but percussion instruments always have had a special place for me.

    Her sound is so huuuuuuuge! You hear the shell vibrating, the resonance of the heads, the pitch. I’m just gobsmacked. It’s not a drum sound that I would normally go for. Of course the technique is also just immense, a true rhythmic master.

    Simply fantastic drummer - her style of breaking down each piece and adding more unique patterns was superb. Great teacher and drummer par excellence. I am tabla and dholak player and have played the kerva taal many times. Was a treat to hear this all on the drums.
